Growing up in the quaint town of Greenville, AL, Mary Catherine Colley was the youngest of three siblings and attended Fort Dale Academy. Her high school years were filled with cheerleading as a UCA All-Star, softball, and a brief stint in basketball. This small-town upbringing instilled a strong sense of community and perseverance that has guided her throughout her life.
Beginning her college career at Auburn University where she earned a degree in Spanish International Trade, Mary Catherine has a passion for international studies. Her academic journey continued with an MBA in International Marketing from Auburn, during which she had the opportunity to study abroad in the Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, and Hungary. Her quest for knowledge culminated in a PhD in International Development from the University of Southern Mississippi, with a memorable study abroad experience in Ambergris Caye, Belize. At Auburn, Mary Catherine was also involved in Chi Omega sorority and the Tiger Pause dance team, contributing to their debut on the sidelines of football games.
Professionally, Mary Catherine has held a variety of roles, starting with fundraising for Auburn University’s College of Engineering, and transitioning into a Sales Manager position with a Fortune 500 company in Birmingham. After a sabbatical backpacking through Europe, she returned to Auburn as a Marketing Manager for the Technical Assistance Center. Balancing full-time work and studies, she completed her PhD in International Development in 2004, graduating as one of the top students in her cohort.
Mary Catherine has been married to her husband for 20 years. The couple has two daughters, Reese and Tupper, both attending Lee Scott Academy. You can find her supporting her daughters in their various activities, traveling all over the world, and exploring local markets and estate sales. She also serves as a Fulbright Specialist and is an ambassador for the Council on Foreign Relations, reflecting her ongoing commitment to global education. She and her family are active members of First Baptist Church in Opelika, AL, and she has a soft spot for low-fat Jif peanut butter, which is a small but cherished indulgence.
